CAROL PAYNE

Painter and Teacher
of Decorative Art
Carol Payne has been painting since 1972 and taught her first classes in 1975.
Over the years Carol has taken seminars with Ginger Edwards, Joan Johnson, Helen Barrick,
Pat Clark, Joyce Howard, Karl-Heinz Meschbach and many other well known artist and
teachers. These experiences have led Carol to her particular style which is best described
as refined, detailed folk art which she paints on almost any surface in acrylics.
Carol is a member of the Society of Decorative Painters and an active member of
the local chapter, Penns Woods Painters. Working from her home studio in
Mechanicsburg, Carol currently has weekly classes offered to beginners, intermediate and
advanced students.
As a graduate of the University of Missouri, Carol was trained in education and
brings these tools to the classroom and seminars. She has traveled to teach seminars in a
number of US cities which she thoroughly enjoys.
Carols credentials include teaching at the SDP National Convention,
selection for SDP Decorative Arts Collection judging, recipient of PBS Judges Choice
award, various art show honors, prizes, ribbons and, of course, her university training.
Her work has also been selected to be featured in the Decorative
Painter Magazine. While recognized many times as a fine painter, Carols teaching
skills are exceptional. Not only will she provide assistance in specific techniques
designed to advance the skills of the student, Carol will also display her creative
approach to the selection of unique and interesting pieces. She is also a DecoArt Helping
Artist.
